A Visit Novel 

Mr. Ahmad's class had been planning a picnic for some time. The Headmaster had allowed them a day's outing and they were to go by the school bus. They were naturally very excited. Mr. Ahmad arranged the visit to a farm with Mr. Hassan, the manager of the Model Agricultural Farm.

مسٹر احمد کی جماعت کچھ عرصہ سے تاریکی پروگرام بنا رہی تھی۔ ہیڈ ماسٹر صاحب نے انہیں ایک دن کی تفریقی سیر کی اجازت دے دی اور انہیں اسکول کی بیس میں پاتا تھا۔ قدرتی طور پر وہ مست جوان دارواش میں تھے ۔ مسٹر احمد نے مسلا من جو کہ مال درمی فارم کے غیر تھے کے ساتھ فارم کی سیر کا انتظام کیا تھا ۔

It was a pleasant day in April when Mr. Ahmad and his class reached the Model Farm. Mr.Hassan received them at the gate and showed them around. The boys had no idea that an  agricultural farm could be so large and interesting. It was the wheat harvesting season. The party saw a huge machine called the "Combine" working in the vast wheat fields. It cut the crop and tied it into sheaves. With one sweep, it seemed to eat up a large area of the golden crop which came out tied into a bundle at the other end. The wheat then went into "Thresher" which separated the grain from the chaff From one end of the machine fell a golden rain of sweet smelling wheat, while chaff flew out at the other. The students watched the working of the machine with keen interest.   

Mr.Hassan said: "The whole process of ploughing, seeding, harvesting and threshing the com is done with machines on our farm. One man working with this machine can do as much work as one hundred men working without it." دوا پر میل کا ایک خوشگوار دن تھا جب احمد صاحب اور ان کی جماعت ماڈل فارم پر پہلی ۔ حسن صاحب نے گیٹ پر ان کا استقبال کیا اور اردگرد

( جنہیں دکھا ئیں۔ لڑکوں کو گمان نہ تھا کہ ایک زرعی فارم اتنا بڑا اور دلچسپ ہوسکتا ہے۔ یہ گندم کی کٹائی کا موسم تھا۔ جماعت نے گندم کے وسیع کھیتوں میں کام کرتے ہوئے ایک بڑی سی مشین دیکھی جسے کہا میں کہتے تھے ۔ فصل کانتی اور گھوں میں باندھتی جاتی تھی ۔ ایک ہی بلکہ میں ایسا لگتا تھا کہ دوسری فصل کے ایک بڑے رقبہ کو کھا گئی ہے جو گٹھوں میں بندھی دوسرے سرے سے باہر کی تھیں ۔ پھر گندم " تھر پڑا میں جاتی تھی جو تاج کو بھوت سے الگ کرتی تھی۔ مشین کے ایک سرے سے خوشبودار گندم کی شہری بارش کرتی تھی جبکہ دوسرے سرے پر بھوسہ اڑتا تھا۔ طلباء نے مشین کے عمل کو گہری دلچسپی سے دیکھا ۔ حسن صاحب نے کہا ” ہمارے فارم میں ہل چلانے ، ہیچ ہوئے ، فصل کاٹنے اور ا تاج سے بھوسے کو الگ کرنے کے سارے عمل مشینوں سے کئے جاتے ہیں۔ اس مشین پر کام کرنے والا ایک آدمی اس کے بغیر کام کرنے والے سو آدمیوں جتنا کام کر سکتا ہے۔

Bilal (One of the students): "Sir, do you get bigger crops in this way? Mr. Hassan: "O, much bigger. While an average farm produces 15 to 20 quintals of wheat for every hectare, we produce as much as 60 to 70 quintals," Bilal: "This is wonderful. But, surely machines do not make the grain."

Mr. Hassan (laughing): "No, certainly not. What, in fact, happens is that first the machines called "tractors' plough deeper. Then, they prepare the land for sowing much faster. The sowing machine sows the seed very fast, and no seed goes waste. We also select the best seed. Then we use, chemical fertilizers to enrich the soil. We get a lot of canal water but we also irrigate our fields with our own tube-well which can supply water all the year round. Finally, we spray insecticides on our crops to kill germs and harmful insects. So, our farm produces three to four times as much wheat per hectare as an ordinary farm does."

بلال (طلباء میں سے ایک ) ” جناب کیا آپ اس طرح زیادہ فصل حاصل کرتے ہیں؟'' حسن صاحب : ” ہاں، بہت زیادہ۔ جبکہ ایک مام کھیت ہر ایکٹر سے چند روے میں کونیل گندم پیدا کرتا ہے تو ہم ساٹھ سے ستر کو فتل تک پیدا کرتے ہیں۔'' بلال یہ کمال ہے ۔ لیکن کیا مشینیں اناج نہیں جاتیں ۔

حسن صاحب ( جنتے ہوے نہیں دبایا نہیں ۔ دراصل ہوتا یہ ہے کہ پہلے مشینیں جنہیں ٹریکٹر کہتے ہیں کہ راہل چلاتی ہیں ۔ پھر وہ تیزی سے بیچ کی بوائی کے لئے زمین تیار کرتی ہیں۔ بیچ ہونے والی مشین تیزی سے نا ہوتی ہے اور کوئی بی ضائع نہیں ہوتا۔ ہم بہترین بی کا بھی انتخاب کر تے ہیں ۔ پھرمٹی کو زرخیز بنانے کے لئے ہم کیمیائی کھادوں کا استعمال کرتے ہیں۔ ہمیں بہت سا نہری پانی حاصل ہوتا ہے لیکن اپنے کھیتوں کی اپنے خود کے ٹیوب ویل سے آبپاشی کرتے ہیں جو سال بھر پانی فراہم کر سکتا ہے۔ آخر میں جراثیم اور نقصان دہ کیٹروں کو مارنے کے لئے ہم اپنی فصلوں پر کیٹرے مار ادویات کا چھڑکاؤ کرتے ہیں۔ اسی لئے ہمارا فارم ایک عام کھیت سے فی ایکٹر تین سے چار گنا زیادہ گندم پیدا کرتے ہیں ۔"

Sarosh (another student):"Do you grow only wheat? Mr. Hassan: "No, we grow wheat, maize, cotton, sugar-cane and gram Moreover, we grow vegetables and we also have a large orchard, where we grow mangoes and oranges." The party was then taken to the vegetable farm and the visitors were surprised to see growing there such vegetables as were out of season. Mr. Hassan explained that by using chemical fertilizers, with plentiful supply of water, and with the help of machinery, they could grow, finer and better vegetables in all seasons and in larger quantities. He offered the boys fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, They were washed in running water and the boys ate them with great delight.

سروش: ( ایک دوسرا طالبعلم ) '' کیا آپ صرف گندم اگاتے ہیں؟

مسٹر حسن : ”نہیں ہم گندم مکئی ، کپاس ، گنا اور چنے اگاتے ہیں ۔ علاوہ ازیں ہم سبزیاں بھی اگاتے ہیں اور ہمارے ہاں ایک بڑا اچھل دار باغ بھی ہے، جہاں ہم آم اور نارنگیاں اگاتے ہیں ۔ جماعت کو پھر سبزیوں کے فارم میں لے جایا گیا اور وہاں ایسی سبزیوں کو جن کا موسم گزر چکا تھا، اُگے ہوۓ دیکھ کر مہمان حیران ہوۓ ۔مسٹرحسن نے واضح کیا کہ کیمیائی کھاد، پانی کی بہتات اور مشینوں کی مدد سے وہ تمام موسموں میں بڑی مقدار میں زیادہ اچھی اور بہتر سبزیاں اگا سکتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے لڑکوں کو تازہ ٹماٹر اور کھیرے پیش کئے۔ وہ بہتے ہوۓ پانی میں دھوئے گئے تھے اور لڑکوں نے وہ بڑی خوشی سے کھاۓ ۔

It was afternoon by now and Mr. Hassan gave the boys a delicious lunch prepared mainly from the farm's own produce. Later, the students visited the mango orchard and were delighted to see green fruit, hanging from the branches in large numbers. The trunks of the trees had been white washed with lime and the ground below was neat and clean. They did not see any weeds or wild grasses around. Mr. Hassan told them that it was necessary to protect them from pests and diseases which destroy the plants as well as the fruit.

اب پچھلے پہر کا وقت تھا اور مسٹر حسن نے لڑکوں کو اپنے فارم کی خاص پیداوار سے تیار شدہ لذیذ کھانا دیا۔ بعد میں طلبہ آم کے باغ میں گئے اور وہ شاخوں سے بڑی مقدار میں سبز پھل کو لٹکے ہوئے دیکھ کر بہت خوش ہوئے ۔ درختوں کے تنوں پر تازہ سفید چونا کیا گیا تھا اور نیچے زمین صاف ستھری تھی ۔انہوں نے اردگردگھاس پھوس یا جنگلی گھاس نہ دیکھی ۔حسن صاحب نے بتایا کہ انہیں کیڑے مکوڑوں اور بیماریوں سے بچانا ضروری ہے جو پودوں اور پھلوں کو بھی  تباہ کردیتےہیں

Mr. Hassan also told the visitors that the farm had been doing so well that they had decided to add a dairy to it. There, finest cows and buffaloes would be kept. He surprised the visitors by telling them that the farm would use an electric milker to milk the animals. Modern machinery would make cream and butter and preserve the milk. He promised to invite Mr. Ahmed and his class when the dairy started working. Mr. Ahmad thanked him. The boys were really happy with their visit and cheered loudly when they left the farm.

حسن صاحب نے مہمانوں کو یہ بھی بتایا کہ فارم اتنا اچھا چل رہا ہے کہ وہ ڈیری کا اضافہ کرنے کا فیصلہ کر چکے ہیں ۔ وہاں بہترین قسم کی گائیں اور مینیں رکھی جائیں گی ۔انہوں نے مہمانوں کو یہ تا کر حیران کر دیا کہ فارم پر برقی مشینیں دودھ دوہنے کے لئے استعمال ہوں گی ۔جدیدشین بالائی اور محن بنائیں گی اور دودھ کومحفوظ رکھیں گی ۔ انہوں نے وعدہ کیا کہ ڈیری کا کام شروع ہو جائے گا تو وہ احمد صاحب اور اس کی جماعت کو دعوت دیں گے ۔ مسٹر احمد نے ان کا شکر یہ ادا کیا۔لڑ کے اپنی بیر سے بہت خوش تھے اور جب وہ فارم سے چلے تو انہوں نے بلند آواز سے خوشی میں نعرے لگاۓ ۔

While coming back they talked about their visit to the farm, Bilal said "We need to establish many such farms throughout the country". Mr. Ahmad agreed with him and said, "I think you are right. In this way we would be able to meet the needs of ever growing population of our country.

واپس آتے ہوۓ انہوں نے فارم کی سیر کے متعلق بات چیت کی ، بلال نے کہا ہمیں سارے ملک میں اس طرح کے فارم قائم کرنے کی ضرورت ہے۔‘ احمد صاحب نے اس سے اتفاق کیا اور کہا، ” میرا خیال ہے کہ تم ٹھیک کہتے ہو۔ اس طریقے سے ہم اپنے ملک کی بڑھتی ہوئی آبادی کی ضروریات کو پورا کر سکتے ہیں۔
